the office

the office is a great tv show

for those of you who don't watch it, it's basically about an office (obviously) that is run by Michael Scott (Steve Carell)
he is completely inept as a boss and spends most of his office time thinking up ways to make the office more fun, however, none of his employees seem to want to have anything to do with his ideas (with the exception of Dwight Schrute)

i didn't want to watch it at first because it seemed boring but my friend forced me to watch it anyways and now i love it, so watch it or else

some of the crazy things Michael has done include hosting a Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race For The Cure, trying to survive in the Scranton wilderness, firing nearly all of the new employees his branch incorporated (because they weren't part of the "family"), and so on

its not just about what Michael does either, there are a bunch of sidestories that go along with the main plot (which is nonexistent) and characters have slowly developed alongside the series

basically its for people with a sense of humor
so watch it

Obama's new plan

so with the U.S. economy spiraling downward, we need to think about how we can resolve the economic crisis and reassert ourselves as the strongest and most quickly growing economy in the world

obviously, obama's stimulus plan is the major factor here
his plan will use an estimated $75 billion (probably more) in the form of tax cuts and helping working families, the unemployed, elderly/disabled, homeowners (due to the fall of housing prices)
an estimated $45 billion will be held in reserve in case we have another economic breakdown in the future

unfortunately, his plan is designed to work in the short-term, meaning we won't be able to depend on it if the initial surge doesn't fix most of the economic problems
it's more of a short burst of aid, with some back-up just in case we fail

i personally think we should think more in the long term, seeing as countries such as China and India are rapidly gaining power with strong economic growth while we lag behind
unfortunately, this stimulus plan is all we've got at the moment, so we might as well go ahead with it

you could think of it in terms of jump-starting a car
a short burst of energy that should get the car moving
if it doesn't, you're screwed over

this plan better work

look at that big smile

breaking yo

i think i'll actually post about something that interests me this time *gasp*
if you haven't already read my other posts, my blog consists of mainly garbage
so dont read it

anyways

i got interested in breakdancing last fall
except i'm really lazy so i haven't actually practiced seriously
up until a couple weeks ago
so yeah

breakdancing isn't as hard as people might think it is
you do require some upper body strength, but not nearly as much as people think
it's more about balance

here's an example of a "freeze", a fundamental move in breakdancing -->

variation no.2 -->

it probably looks really funny... it does to me lol

my arms freakin hurt after those pictures, took forever
gahhh

anyway, freezes are what i'm practicing right now
there's other stuff like toprock, footwork, power moves, but i'll get to that later
i only started a while ago lol

i guess i'm focusing on hip-hop too
that would include wave, popping, tutting, isolations, glide, c-walk, stuff like that
it's pretty fun

if i had to say though, i'm more of a hip-hop type
which means when i practice, i'll practice mostly the stuff in the last paragraph
for breaking, i only practice freezes right now, i'll get to it more as i get better

fun fact about breakdancing:
breakdancing is actually called: bboying
a male breakdancer is a bboy and a female breakdancer is a bgirl
the term "bboy" was originally used when a DJ noticed that the dancers dance to the beat of the song, henceforth they were called "beat-boys" or bboys for short

later, some reporter called it "break"dancing because the beat is also the "break" of the song
beat, bass, whatever you wanna call it

HUGE INSPIRATION: JabbaWockeeZ
winner of America's Best Dance Crew season 1

great video of them:

hilarious and brilliant

JABBAWOCKEEZ - episode 7

these guys are freakin geniuses
not only that, but they dance with face masks, which is EXTREMELY difficult
long live JabbaWockeeZ

peace out

gbn teaching methods

the teachers here at GBN use a variety of methods to teach their students

of course, they vary from teacher to teacher

but overall, i can say that i have been disappointed with the methods used here

people learn one of three ways: audio/visual/kinesthetic

visual learners learn from visual experiences, obviously

they prefer seeing things, for example, if you're in an art class, you would learn from looking at examples of art, and making your own art

kinesthetic learners learn from actually doing things

this style of learning is prevalent in physical activities, such as playing an instrument, a sport, etc. most people are considered to be kinesthetic learners

auditory learners learn from hearing things

this method works well in certain environments, if you're learning music or something like that.
it does NOT work well for most people in nearly all of the academic subjects taught in school
of course, this is a personal opinion, based on my experience and observations

i mean, come on, no one wants to hear a lecture about history or math, do they? no.
this is the reason why i sleep/don't pay attention in almost all my classes
because the teachers talk and talk for the whole class
the subject is boring ALREADY they just make it more boring this way, unfortunately

it's true that we do have some visual elements in class, and fewer kinesthetic elements
but most classes are based on auditory learning

we sit for 90 minutes, listening to a teacher talk
it's BORING.

it's not like i have something against the subject, i just don't like your TEACHING METHODS
this isn't directed to a specific teacher, just to GBN in general

and even then, people won't acknowledge this
they'll just whine about how GBN is so successful academically and how we don't need to change anything

whatever.

this is why more people pay attention in classes where they get involved
instead of sitting for 90 minutes, listening

pay attention

it's interesting to see how clueless some people can be.
for example, today as i was walking to the lab with the rest of you (referring to my chem class)
my friend walked straight into one of those doors in the hallway.
it was freaking hilarious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_span

according to wikipedia, an average human's attention span is around 8 seconds.
after those 8 seconds, something else will usually shift our focus, such as a stray thought.
of course, this is our continuous attention span which is talking about how long we can concentrate on something without any lapses in our concentration.

attention span also varies with age; adults are usually associated with a higher attention span than children. the maximum attention span for an adult is still pretty short, around 20 minutes.

one more variable to consider is what we're doing at the time. obviously doing something we enjoy will increase the attention span. forexample, if you are doing homework, you are very likely to have a decreased attention span. conversely, if you are eating a delicious bowl of tonkotsu ramen, you may have an increased attention span.

apparently, human attention span has decreased drastically over the years. this is, in part, due to the rapidly evolving technology. because we can get almost anything we want instantly(thanks to comcast), our attention span has nosedived, making humans very irritable and impatient. for example, in the past, people didn't even have email, they had to wait for a big fat horse to get mail. with modern technology, we can send mail instantly to anyone worldwide in seconds. this is just one of the many examples that technology provides us with. in a couple centuries, we probably won't even have to think anymore, computers will do everything for us.
like the matrix. awesome movie, by the way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_matrix
it's a very interesting concept, guaranteed to make your brain rot when you think about it.

scientists suggest that children at a young age who watch tv and browse the web have decreased attention spans. we are therefore encouraged to force young children to read, and take away their tv. not likely.

so basically, to sum up everything here, if you find yourself walking into doors
and tripping over your own feet, read books.

blogging

i dont like "to blog"
personally i think it's a huge waste of time

some people ask why?
there are a multitude of reasons:
1. there are about a million more productive things to be doing, such as studying, learning guitar, working out, etc.
2. there is a 99% likelihood that no one besides your classmates will read your blog
3. no one cares what i think
4. due to the restrictions placed on this "blog" of mine, i am unable to post what i want
5. people bother me about my blog when i see them
6. any "original idea" you may have has already been posted about online, somewhere else
7. it is an obligation; something i am forced to do in order to preserve a grade which will show up on my transcript for college, which in turn will determine my entire life
8. it is pointless, will not help me later on
9. i will not be posting after the year is over, or whenever i am allowed to stop posting

those are just a couple reasons off the top of my head

so yeah, i dont like blogging at all
if you're reading this, you're wasting your time also.
go do something fun.
