gbn teaching methods

the teachers here at GBN use a variety of methods to teach their students

of course, they vary from teacher to teacher

but overall, i can say that i have been disappointed with the methods used here

people learn one of three ways: audio/visual/kinesthetic

visual learners learn from visual experiences, obviously

they prefer seeing things, for example, if you're in an art class, you would learn from looking at examples of art, and making your own art

kinesthetic learners learn from actually doing things

this style of learning is prevalent in physical activities, such as playing an instrument, a sport, etc. most people are considered to be kinesthetic learners

auditory learners learn from hearing things

this method works well in certain environments, if you're learning music or something like that.
it does NOT work well for most people in nearly all of the academic subjects taught in school
of course, this is a personal opinion, based on my experience and observations

i mean, come on, no one wants to hear a lecture about history or math, do they? no.
this is the reason why i sleep/don't pay attention in almost all my classes
because the teachers talk and talk for the whole class
the subject is boring ALREADY they just make it more boring this way, unfortunately

it's true that we do have some visual elements in class, and fewer kinesthetic elements
but most classes are based on auditory learning

we sit for 90 minutes, listening to a teacher talk
it's BORING.

it's not like i have something against the subject, i just don't like your TEACHING METHODS
this isn't directed to a specific teacher, just to GBN in general

and even then, people won't acknowledge this
they'll just whine about how GBN is so successful academically and how we don't need to change anything

whatever.

this is why more people pay attention in classes where they get involved
instead of sitting for 90 minutes, listening

pay attention

it's interesting to see how clueless some people can be.
for example, today as i was walking to the lab with the rest of you (referring to my chem class)
my friend walked straight into one of those doors in the hallway.
it was freaking hilarious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_span

according to wikipedia, an average human's attention span is around 8 seconds.
after those 8 seconds, something else will usually shift our focus, such as a stray thought.
of course, this is our continuous attention span which is talking about how long we can concentrate on something without any lapses in our concentration.

attention span also varies with age; adults are usually associated with a higher attention span than children. the maximum attention span for an adult is still pretty short, around 20 minutes.

one more variable to consider is what we're doing at the time. obviously doing something we enjoy will increase the attention span. forexample, if you are doing homework, you are very likely to have a decreased attention span. conversely, if you are eating a delicious bowl of tonkotsu ramen, you may have an increased attention span.

apparently, human attention span has decreased drastically over the years. this is, in part, due to the rapidly evolving technology. because we can get almost anything we want instantly(thanks to comcast), our attention span has nosedived, making humans very irritable and impatient. for example, in the past, people didn't even have email, they had to wait for a big fat horse to get mail. with modern technology, we can send mail instantly to anyone worldwide in seconds. this is just one of the many examples that technology provides us with. in a couple centuries, we probably won't even have to think anymore, computers will do everything for us.
like the matrix. awesome movie, by the way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_matrix
it's a very interesting concept, guaranteed to make your brain rot when you think about it.

scientists suggest that children at a young age who watch tv and browse the web have decreased attention spans. we are therefore encouraged to force young children to read, and take away their tv. not likely.

so basically, to sum up everything here, if you find yourself walking into doors
and tripping over your own feet, read books.

blogging

i dont like "to blog"
personally i think it's a huge waste of time

some people ask why?
there are a multitude of reasons:
1. there are about a million more productive things to be doing, such as studying, learning guitar, working out, etc.
2. there is a 99% likelihood that no one besides your classmates will read your blog
3. no one cares what i think
4. due to the restrictions placed on this "blog" of mine, i am unable to post what i want
5. people bother me about my blog when i see them
6. any "original idea" you may have has already been posted about online, somewhere else
7. it is an obligation; something i am forced to do in order to preserve a grade which will show up on my transcript for college, which in turn will determine my entire life
8. it is pointless, will not help me later on
9. i will not be posting after the year is over, or whenever i am allowed to stop posting

those are just a couple reasons off the top of my head

so yeah, i dont like blogging at all
if you're reading this, you're wasting your time also.
go do something fun.

ramen

ramen is very delicious
if you've never had ramen, it can be found in a wide variety of asian supermarkets
such as H-Mart or Assi which is located in Niles i think
unfortunately, what you will find is not actually"ramen"
rather, you will find many varieties of disgusting, "americanized" pieces of crap ramen

now, the united states version of ramen compared to real ramen
is like comparing a maggot infested, chunk of cheap, moldy, bread with flies covering it
to a delicious cake.
i'm not joking

this is the ramen you americans are familiar with:and i am always annoyed when i hear people talk about it
americans seem to actually think this piece of crap is good
seriously, americans will shove anything in their mouths

now, actual ramen is composed of mainly: soup, noodles, and assorted vegetables/meat
depending on what goes in the ramen, there is a huge variety of types of ramen available
such as miso, tonkotsu, shoyu, shio
and many more
the specifics can be found at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramen#Types
of course, they are only available in korea, japan, china, and so on
not in america
because americans are satisfied with the crappy freeze-dried, flavorless variety
they dont even include vegetables or meat
all you get is some thin, texture-less noodles with dried broth powder, mass-produced in factories
sheesh

this is what you COULD be eating:

a rich broth with noodles that aren't freeze-dried, actually MADE by a real chef!!
with some vegetables, pork, and (this is amazing) an EGG!!!
so delicious
when i was in korea this summer, THIS is what i ate
american ramen doesn't even deserve to be compared with real ramen

so if you suddenly find yourself in an asian country
and you happen across a ramen shop in the street, then GET SOME
and you will agree with me

as usual, america has managed to turn yet another fine dish
into a seriously disgusting piece of crap
go america.

guitar

so i'm looking around my room trying to think of something
that i can post about in this blog
and the first thing i noticed is my guitar
so... guitar

guitar is a really fun instrument to play
i taught myself, like most guitarists
and the awesome thing about guitars, is that they can play all sorts of music
so you can play hardcore death metal high voltage rock
or you can play a heart strumming melody
its pretty cool

my favorite songs to play are Simple, Starving To Be Safe by Daphne Loves Derby
and Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

my back really hurts i dont know why

so anyways
learn to play guitar
its fun
and yeah
